Choose a 1 Day Highland Tour from Edinburgh
Book Day Trips to the Scottish Highlands with Rabbie's Trail Burners
Rabbies have put together 6 day tours departing from Edinburgh. Four of these are, unsurprisingly, to the Highlands of Scotland while the other two explore Fife and the Scottish Borders, respectively. The itineraries for these Scotland tours to the Highlands have not changed much over the years because they have been proven time and time again to be extremely popular with tourists.

While it's not possible to see Scotland in a day, these short day tours do an incredible job of giving you a taste of the Scottish Highlands by including famous sights, attractions and scenery that are very typical of this beautiful country.
The four Highland tour itineraries do overlap somewhat but each of them is specifically designed to explore a different part of the Scottish Highlands: Central Highlands, Western Highlands, Trossachs & Loch Lomond National Park and, of course, the spectacular Glencoe, Loch Ness and Rannoch Moor area further north.
The Rabbies Highlands tours itineraries:
- Loch Ness, Glencoe & The Highlands Day Tour from Edinburgh - My top choice for a one day tour in the Highlands of Scotland because of its excellent itinerary. Although quite long, this day trip includes the gorgeous scenery of Rannoch Moor and Glencoe, one of the most beautiful areas of the Scottish Highlands (which no tourist should miss) and it takes you to the world-famous Loch Ness where you can take a 1-hour boat trip to try to catch a glimpse of the Loch Ness Monster.
- West Highland Lochs & Castles Day Tour from Edinburgh - My second recommendation for a Highlands day tour. This is in effect a scenery & castles tour, with 4 Scottish castles included on the itinerary. Highlights of the tour include the impressive Stirling Castle and the romantic ruins of Kilchurn Castle on the banks of Loch Awe.
- Loch Lomond National Park & Stirling Castle Day Tour from Edinburgh - A lovely tour taking you through the Trossachs area of the Highlands and Rob Roy country. This is the only day tour where you get to explore the imposing Stirling Castle and the beautiful Loch Lomond, the largest lake in Britain.
- Highland Lochs, Glens & Whisky Day Tour from Edinburgh - A well-designed, relaxing tour in the Central Highlands ideal for whisky and scenery lovers alike as the itinerary includes a visit to the Dewars Whisky distillery, the Queen's View at Loch Tummel, the picturesque town of Pitlochry and many other beautiful sights in Central Scotland.
Tour Duration: 9 to 12 hours
Tour Dates and Times: All Rabbies Highland day tours with departure from Edinburgh run all year long. The Loch Ness, Glencoe & The Highlands Day Tour and the Loch Lomond National Park & Stirling Castle Day Tour run every day while the West Highland Lochs & Castles Day Tour and the Highland Lochs, Glens & Whisky Day Tour run only 4 days a week (including midweek, Friday and weekend dates).
Which Rabbies One Day Tour to take from Edinburgh?
I often get asked to recommend a particular day tour because to tourists all itineraries look so very similar and equally appealing. Though not Scottish myself, I have travelled extensively around Scotland and have been on many tours with various Scottish tour operators which means I can make good recommendations.
To answer the question 'what day tour to take from Edinburgh' we first need to look at the itineraries. There is some slight overlapping between the three Highlands tours organised by Rabbies but each of them is meant to explore a different part of the Scottish Highlands. Having said that, Loch Lomond, Stirling and Glencoe are common stops on two or three out of the four Highlands tours available.
My recommendation is to take the Loch Ness, Glencoe & The Highlands Day Tour which includes an extremely spectacular and scenic itinerary. This tour takes you through the impressive Glencoe and Rannoch Moor, past Ben Nevis, Britain's highest mountain and then up to Loch Ness where you can take a boat trip for some Loch Ness Monster hunting. It is the ideal day tour for first-time visitors to Scotland but also for those who want to revisit some of the gorgeous Scottish scenery.
Combining 2 Scotland day tours
Given the opportunity, I would recommend that you also take one of these next tours on a different day of your stay in Edinburgh. This would give you a chance to experience two completely different areas of Scotland in the space of two days.
