Pictures of Neidpath Castle outside Peebles

Neidpath Castle is located just outside of Peebles (you can easily walk to it) and even though it's not as amazing as other Scottish Castles is has a charm of its own. I particularly liked the damaged part which you can't see from the road but rather from the opposite side.

In front of the castle there is a small area with benches where you can sit to admire the castle and watch the Scottish flag being lifted by the wind.

The best view of Neidpath Castle you can get is when you go down in the valley looking up. It's there where you can catch a glimpse of the damaged area and you can clearly see a stair case. The view from the road is not that bad either but unfortunately, it makes Neidpath Castle look rather boring, almost like an isolated tower.

Neidpath Castle belonged originally to the Hays of Yester, built probably for Sir William de Haya, Sheriff of Peebles. After a while it was sold to the Duke of Queensberry. There were added gardens and trees to the estate. During the attacks of Cromwell the castle was severely damaged.

The tower of Neidpath Castle is not square but rather the shape of a parallelogram with rounded corners.

The front side of the castle when you walk down to it. Just in front of the gate there are small piles of rocks that look rather interesting. If you're thinking of taking a picture while sitting on them make sure you sit down carefully. They're not very stable.

First view of Neidpath Castle from the bottom of the hill, from the river bank. It must have been a good position for the castle as it was hard to reach this way.

A close up to Neidpath's damaged area bits of rocks have fallen in time from the castle and can now be found at the bottom of the hill. Another explanation might be the cannon attacks on the castle. Neidpath is unusual among Scottish castles through the use of hard mortar.

This picture is taken from the seats area and this is the view one gets when admiring the castle.

Neidpath from the road

Neidpath Castle view from the road As I said above it's not a very impressive shot.
