Photos of Edinburgh, Scotland's Capital City
About Edinburgh
Also known as the Athens of the North, Edinburgh is without a doubt one of the most beautiful Capital Cities in Europe. Its unique skyline and distinctive landmarks can be admired from any of the many high vantage points scattered throughout the city.
To be truly representative, a collection Edinburgh photographs should include views of Edinburgh Castle and the Old Town which is why I always recommend photos taken from Calton Hill, Salisbury Crags and the Scott Monument for posters, brochures, guidebooks, calendars and the like. The views from these three magnificent vantage points are unparalleled anywhere else in Edinburgh.
But these tourist hot-spots can be somewhat of a cliché. For a fresh, unusual perspective of Edinburgh I would recommend using images of the Scottish Parliament building down in Holyrood, of the Docks area in Leith or of the New Town.
The layout of Edinburgh City Centre makes photographing difficult due to awkward lighting during the day and throughout the year which is why really good photos of Edinburgh are relatively few.
